South Cherokee Driver Improvement Clinic is certified by the Georgia Department of Driver Services in accordance with Georgia law to administer the Assessment Component and instruct the Intervention Course of the DUI, Alcohol or Drug Risk Reduction Program.

Effective July 1, 1999, the program requirement under Georgia law for reinstatement of a driver's license for conviction of alcohol or drug offenses changed.

Offenses that require completion of the DUI, Alcohol or Drug Risk Reduction Program are DUI, including Habitual Violator Status, Drug Possession, and Underage Alcohol Possession While Operating a Vehicle. Judges will sometimes order people to attend the Risk Reduction Program for other offenses.

ASSESSMENT
At the Risk Reduction Program you will be given a schedule of classes to review for class selection. You will then complete assessment paperwork, pay assessment fee of $75.00 (fee is set by state law) and complete assessment questionnaire. This will take approximately 45 minutes. The results of your assessment are confidential and will not appear on your driving record. You will learn about your assessment results during your class. Once the assessment is completed you will register to attend the Intervention Course you have selected.

INTERVENTION COURSE
You will attend the 20 hour Risk Reduction Intervention Course at the location where the assessment was taken. The 20 hour Intervention Course is held over a Saturday and Sunday from 9:00am - 5:00pm (hour lunch break) and continues on Monday and Tuesday nights from 6:30pm - 9:30pm to complete the course. You will be issued a Certificate of Completion upon completion.

After completing the 20 hour Risk Reduction Intervention Course, under Georgia law, persons who have received 2 or more DUI's in a five-year period are required to get a substance abuse clinical evaluation and, if necessary, complete a treatment program. Information and referral information is available at our schools.
